CHOREOGRAPHY
THE ART OF TEACHING
As an educator in dance, my philosophy revolves around fostering a holistic environment that prioritizes the development of individuals not only as artists but also as human beings. I firmly believe in placing the person before the performer, recognizing that vulnerability, resilience, and growth are essential to pursuing artistic excellence. My approach to teaching is grounded in creating a safe space that encourages exploration, embraces imperfection, and values the journey of self-discovery.
Central to my teaching philosophy is the belief that failure is an essential part of the learning process. Rather than emphasizing unattainable perfectionism and superficial notions of beauty, I advocate for a culture that normalizes mistakes as stepping stones toward improvement. I encourage my students to embrace setbacks as opportunities for growth and self-reflection, fostering an environment where experimentation and risk-taking are not only accepted but encouraged. Through my education at Chapman University, where I am working towards my BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography, I have cultivated this atmosphere, having lived these principles over the past four years.
Teaching is not merely a profession but a calling—a platform to offer guidance, support, and inspiration to others while continuously evolving and growing myself. It serves as a forum where I can share my knowledge, passion, and experiences, but most importantly, it provides an opportunity to become a better leader. I see myself as a facilitator of learning, guiding students on their path of discovery while embarking on my own journey of continual self-improvement and reflection.
